About BTM

Beyond The Margins is…. A blog, a sounding board, a daily dose of insight. It offers essays on the craft of writing and the business of publishing. There are tips on creating memorable scenes and great dialogue. Interviews with authors, editors and agents. Humorous pokes at the craft, the industry and at ourselves. Think literary magazine run amok.

Beyond the Margins was created in 2010 by a dozen writers, many of whom met or taught at Grub Street, a nonprofit creative writing center in Boston. We have published novels, short fiction, poetry, newspaper and magazine articles, informed—or not—by backgrounds in medicine and social work, journalism and law, graphic design, bartending, and opera. We run guest posts regularly, and consider submissions of 700-1,000 words through our “contact us” button.

If you’re on Twitter, you can find us @BTMargins circulating publishing news, articles and reviews, statistics and opinions, plus trumpeting other great blogs and other writers’ good fortunes.

We hope the diversity of our voices and experiences inject energy and insight into our posts. And we hope readers feel free to join in the discussion. Because even if we’re passionate about what we write, the best material always comes from out there, beyond the margins.
